FOSAGAMS RESOURCE REGISTER

BACKGROUND TO RESOURCE REGISTER

Some 20 years ago, Horst Windisch came across certain publications from the USA and Canada, in which certain information was outlined which I felt were of use to the gem and mineral collecting fraternity in those countries. Based on these publications, the thought arose of producing something similar for the fraternity in Southern Africa. I felt the contents should contain the folloewing (as a minimum). 1) Names, addresses and telephone numbers of the FOSAGAMS Executive. 2) Names, addresses, telephone numbers and meeting details of Clubs affiliated to FOSAGAMS. 3) List of gem and mineral dealers within Southern Africa, containing as much details (in a condensed format) of what these dealers had to offer. 4) List of Museums which have a geological/mineralogical/paleontological exhibit which would be of interest to the fraternity, with a brief description of the exhibit/collection. 5) List of Tertiary Education Institutions offering courses in subjects covering the hobby. This then eventually resulted in the first Resource Register being published in 1996 (after 2 1/2 years of research), which in addition to the above-mentioned five categories also included details of FOSAGAMS sub-committees and non-affiliated Clubs/Societies in the field of gem and mineral collecting. This then took the form of an A-4 sized publication which was distributed to all Clubs/Societies/Dealers/Museums/Tertiary Education Institutions mentioned in the Resource Register.

The list of Dealers belonging to various of our Clubs or that support FOSAGAMS Clubs has become outdated and therefor has been removed altogether. From time to time we will place an ad here or mention special support from a Dealer / Dealers.

Hopefully the Resource Register will be updated in the near future and published here again.
